Heavy-Duty One Piece Visor Face Shield

The SGE 400/3 BB is constructed using a highly-durable polycarbonate visor face shield that protects not only the eyes, but the entire face as well. This innovative design feature guarantees an unsurpassed level of cut resistance and impact protection for the face while very comfortably supporting the head harness, valves, filters, regulators and optional equipment upgrades.

A polysiloxane resin coating protects the polycarbonate visor face shield itself from the potentially harmful effects of aggressive substances.

The specially-treated polycarbonate material is easy to clean and decontaminate an unlimited number of times. No deterioration has been observed using all normal decontamination methods, including immersion into boiling water.

CBRN-Rated Integral Face Seal

Traditional gas masks consist of a flimsy rubber body fitted with two sealed eye pieces. Since the rubber body must support the weight of any accessories attached to the mask, it must be made rigid and thick (i.e., heavy and uncomfortable). The tensile stress exerted by the ends of the straps is discharged only onto the points where they join the mask body. It is therefore necessary to pull the straps very tightly in order to secure a uniform seal around the edge of the mask. This cumbersome design causes unnecessary discomfort to the wearer’s face.

The SGE 400/3 BB face seal is made of very soft rubber with a supple, bellows-type structure. This unique shape allows for a perfect seal every time without sacrificing comfort. The face seal has a seat into which the edge of the load-bearing face piece is inserted, and the coupling of these two parts is ensured by the fixing rim.

As a whole, the universal fit adjustable head harness, integral face seal and stiff polycarbonate body of the mask together provide far more comfort than traditional masks could ever offer. The SGE 400/3 BB may be worn comfortably for up to five continuous days.

Extremely Durable Filter Port Fittings

The SGE masks have a threaded fitting for application of standard filters (DIN 3183, UNI EN 148-1). The fitting is contained in a single unit which also comprises the exhalation valve. The shape of the internal ring nut allows perfect ventilation of the whole face-piece, preventing misting even at low temperatures.

The material used is black polyarilamide, which was originally created for aeronautical and aerospace requirements.

In addition to very high impact resistance, it is not affected by aging or atmospheric factors. Its abrasion resistance is such that after testing with over 3000 assembly/disassembly operations, the filter had sustained no wear.

Materials Used

Technopolymer components include polyarilamide reinforced with mineral charges. Membrane composed of a polyisoprene mixture.

Integrated Exhalation Valve Components

As already seen, the exhalation valve is fitted onto the same unit containing the filter fitting. Externally the valve has a structure which, although it covers the whole membrane, still allows easy discharging of the exhaled air. The purpose of this covering structure is to keep a sufficient volume of uncontaminated air in continuous contact with the membrane.

The exhalation membrane has been made to require minimum effort even at very high flow rates. The excellent memory of the membranes has been achieved by a combination of innovative design and high grade material. A considerable increase in resistance to chemical agents, has been achieved, using blends containing butyl rubbers instead of the traditional natural rubber used by other manufacturers.

Protection Against Warfare Chemicals: Specific Resistance to Mustard Gas

The SGE 400/3 BB Tactical Gas Mask is impervious to aggressive agents due to its special polysiloxane resin coating. Even after very long exposure times of up to 50 consecutive hours, mustard gas failed to penetrate test specimens.

Mustard gas penetration tests conducted on the high-grade butyl rubber face seal and polycarbonate visor face shield coating had the following results:

Heat Resistance

The masks in all their parts are flame resistant as well as heat and radiation tolerant.

Results according to the EN 136 specification and the German Fire-Brigade radiation test:

The SGE 400/3 BB neither melted nor caught fire when tested. No structural problems observed following leakage tests.

The transparent polycarbonate body allows a much wider field of vision than other masks.

Protection Against Projectile Weapons

The visor face shield protects not only the eyes, but the whole face against fragments, stones, and splinters caused by explosions. The face shield is left undamaged (i.e., break or perforation) by a steel sphere .25 caliber (6.35 mm) bullet hitting the mask at any point at the speed of 500 feet per second. Blast effects do not impair the protection performances as all the membranes are able to withstand significant pressure.

How to Wear the SGE 400/3 BB Tactical Gas Mask

The SGE 400/3 BB Tactical Gas Mask may be comfortably worn for up to five consecutive days. The Universal Fit Adjustable Head Harness is a headpiece with six straps that adjusts to fit all face shapes and sizes.

Cleaning and Decontamination

The mask design makes decontamination and cleaning easy. In fact, even when rubber is made of mixtures capable of providing a chemical shield, its structure does absorb and is penetrated by the contaminants. The SGE masks are made of two main parts: face shield and face seal. So the majority of the mask is made of plastic materials which are not permeable to aggressive agents and are not penetrated by them even after very long exposure times. It is advisable to clean the mask each time after use. This is easily accomplished by washing with soap and warm water. Hot water can also be used. The mask can be disinfected using non aggressive disinfectants or by immersing it briefly in boiling water.

Maintenance

At least once a year the inhalation and exhalation membranes must be checked, as well as the sealing gasket of the fitting on the mask.

How to Install the Multipurpose 40mm Standard A2B2E2K2P3/RD Threaded Filter

The Multipurpose 40mm Standard A2B2E2K2P3/RD Threaded Filter is designed for rapid attachment in emergency situations.

To successfully attach the filter, remove factory-sealed plugs from the front and back of filter housing. Choose left, center or right filter port on the SGE 400/3 BB (based on user preference). Insert filter into port and turn in a clockwise direction until secured.
